Fried (and not just the chicken)

Hey fam and friends!!

So there's some good news!! We changed the lady that cooks for us this last week and let me tell you it's been awesome! The last lady that cooked for us was super nice and the food was sometimes good but my comp and I wanted to change and well we don't regret it at all. Hopefully we don't get fat from how good this new member cooks....... we'll see

So this week we had a service project as a district (minus the STL's) and man was it a killer. We had to loosen dirt with a pickax and then load it into a wheelbarrow and then haul it to the side of a member's house to level out the yard. After we leveled it out we had to put gravel but big sized rocks on top. It took all morning long and well lets just say my letter subject applies here. FRIED!!! I put on sunscreen twice but the thing here is it's super humid so you're sweating A TON!! you put the sunscreen on and 5 minutes later you've sweated it all off. Major problem and now I understand why people wear longsleeve and pants while working construction. We got home that afternoon, showered and made the mistake of resting for a little.......... lets just say we woke up and it was dark outside.......

Wednesday was ZONE CONFERENCE! Such a good time. I love President Carlise and his wife. As time passes here in the mission I feel closer to them which I like cuz at first I was kinda intimidated by them to be honest which shouldn't be the case. President shared some things that I would like to share with you. He talked a lot about Obedience because there are lots of missionaries breaking rules and well gossip flies so president wanted us to be more obedient..... well he always does but you get the picture. He shared these scriptures/quotes:

God.... will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. (1 Corinthians 10:13)

When obedience ceases to be an irritant and becomes our quest, in that moment God will endow us with power (Ezra Taft Benson)

I know that as we strive to be obedient and to make the extra effort to be obedient to what the commandments and profets say, we will be stronger and have the tools we need to overcome our trials and struggles. It's as simple as that, Be OBEDIENT!

365 and Counting

This week was very interesting.
Filled with lots of service and not a lot of success. There is the World Cup going on and this thing is waaaaayyy bigger than the Super Bowl in the states. Everybody here is watching here. Tough Stuff.

This week we went to visit Patrick and well we tried basically every single day of the week at different times and didn't find him. We were kinda worried that he moved or something but turns out we found him Friday night. His school schedule changed so we got that up to date and well it'll be a while before the progress happens. To be continued ;)

We painted a house on Friday morning and we didn't finish so he asked if we could come back and finish. The thing is he wanted to paint a creme/white color on top of a super strong neonish green so we had to put like 8 coats on to finally make it look good. It took a while but it looks good now. If anyone needs their house painted let me know cuz i'm basically pro now ;)

Shout out to all them Fathers that were celebrated yesterday! Hope you all felt loved from your offspring. But most importantly I hope you all remembered the greatest father ever to be and that's our Heavenly Father. I love him so much and am greatful for all that he is to me. Without him well I wouldn't be here first of all but second I wouldn't be happy. He brings me so much happiness and the good thing is I can talk to him whenever I want. You as well have the blessing to speak with him. He's only one, prayer away :) My dad is the Second best behind Him because well you know haha but I love my dad because he's a great example of patience, intelligence, love, and best of all he's got some humor to him (dry or not ;) ) LOVE YOU POPS. Hope you all treat your dads with kindness!

Have a great week!

What Just Happened?

Oye!
So this week was super fun!! I had to say goodbye to good ole Lagos but this week was super cool with Elder Asturias that makes me excited for this next 6 weeks. Lots of interesting things have happened ever since he's came which is weird.

One really weird thing that happened was the first day he was here. We were walking back in the night from eating dinner when all of a sudden a taxi flies by us and is hauling! He all of a sudden swerves out of the way and we realize that he almost destroyed somebody on a motorcycle. The lights of the motorcycle swerve and looks like it slows down. Pauses for a second and then gets back on its way but drifts over to the side of the road where we were walking and slows to a stop in front of us. They stop and take off their helmet and it's a woman that's about 30ish years old. She gives out her hand to greet us and we shake her hand and ask what her name was. Without responding, she places her helmet back on and get's back to wherever she was going. My comp and I stand there puzzled and my comp asks me if I know her. I didn't have a clue and neither did my comp. We walked back home super confused.

Another interesting thing. The Jehovah's witnesses came to our house while I was studying. My comp was in the shower and I answered the door but left the screen door shut. They began to preach to me and I sat there listening. They read some scriptures and asked some questions. When I told them who we were they rushed their message and went on their way. I sat there thinking about what happened and it was a good experience because I got to experience what it's like to be on the other side. As I was talking to my comp about it I told him I found out what I needed to improve with my teaching. The weird thing is I just sat there and realized it was an answer to my prayers that I had said the night before. Never would I ever have thought that God would answer my prayers through the Jehovah's Witnesses but I am happy that he answered me. Prayers are answered. ALWAYS! But normally in the way that we aren't expecting. With our daily study of the scriptures and praying we will be able to find answers and help every single day. I have loved being able to read the scriptures specifically the Book of Mormon and recieve comfort and happiness. Last night we were talking with some members and sharing scriptures that we loved and that help in life. As we did that I was super happy to see that the members were truly "Feasting upon the words of Christ" and finding scriptures to help them feel peace and comfort. READ THE SCRIPTURES! Go find your favorite scripture and share it with the fam or friends. If you don't have one, well nows the perfect time to find one ;) The Scriptures have Power!

Love you all and have a great week!

Let the Rain Begin!

So this week was another one of those challenging ones. By challenging i mean our ability to find new investigators was super low. But that means that we've gotta work a little bit harder.

THERE'S CHANGES!! My comp is headed out to Progreso. He'll be in my first district so that'll be exciting! I'm gonna miss my little Peruvian but super excited to teach with my new comp. His name is Elder Arsturias and he's a Chapin (from Guatemala). There's lots of work to do and lots of stuff to enjoy here in La Ceiba!

This week we had divisions with the young men that are preparing to go out on their missions. It is super cool here because they have a desire to come and learn how to teach and love the people. They're the ones that call us not us calling them! These kids are prepared to serve the Lord!

Wednesday was Service day. We literally served the whole day. The other Elderes from our district called us in the morning and asked if we could help with a service for one of their investigators. We chopped grass/weeds and planted some plants in their garden. The dad just had back surgery so that's why he couldn't do it himself. The nice thing is they made us breakfast and a lot of it was organic from what they grew at their house. Really good!!
The other service was for a recent convert in the ward but in the sister's area. Basically we were out of our area the whole day which felt weird but I loved being able to serve. Thanks to my young mens leaders I know how to tolerate long service hours. Now I know why they made us go and weed a lot because, well, here in Honduras we do a lot of that haha

Our investigators didn't come to church this week............. super sad. We weren't able to go bring them to church because this weekend I caught a Cold or Virus which barely allowed me to go to church but I wasn't gonna miss my chance to renew my covenants with my Heavenly Father. The Sacrament is really important to be able to partake and to partake worthily. I feel so blessed to be able to partake every week to be able to improve and become more like our Savior Jesus Christ. My sister shared a quote with me that I love, "Keep your Repentance up to date." It is necessary to keep ourselves clean. My mission president shared this at our last zone conference, "It is easier to maintain the flame than it is to reignite it." If we continuously keep our repentance up to date and have the flame of the Spirit in our lives we will not only feel better but to also be able to help others feel the same.

*** This is Brayden's dad. I asked him if he had heard about the missionaries being removed from Nicaragua because of the political unrest and if any of them had been moved into his mission. He said, "Oh yeah they loaded our mission!! They're opening 5 areas this week of changes!!! Super crazy stuff!!!"

Hno. Carlos took us to this animal reserve place so we took some pics. He also took us to this beach lookout place which was hard not to jump in the water haha
